Listening to: 'Our God is Mighty' by AJohnny Parks Band
A few months ago, we decided to teach a new song at church- it's called 'Rescuer' and it's by a Northern irish worship leader called Johnny Parks. Then this week at Forum I played in the band with Matt Weir, the drummer for the Johnny Parks Band. So I got the album 'Break the Silence' from iTunes, and discovered another great song. These words about Jesus are brilliant.
Our God is endless, our God is ageless
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God is gracious, our God is selfless
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God is famous, our God is fearless
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God is living, our God is moving
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God is mighty, He's over all things
Our great Redeemer, there's no one like You
All power and glory are Yours forever
And there's nothing that You can't do
Our God was human, our God was humble
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God was broken, our God has suffered
There's nothing that He can't do
Our God is risen, death is defeated
There's nothing that He can't do
He's seated in glory, reigning forever
There's nothing that He can't do
I love that these lyrics take seriously the story of Jesus as a reality that impacts our understanding of God- of divinity. A God who became one of us, suffered, and died. A God not conceived of as apart from Jesus of Nazareth. A God that we wouldn't have imagined in our fallen pride. Yet one who so gloriously conquers in sovereign might through the cross. Jesus is over all things.
